LEAF Marque is often linked to renewable energy in farm solar marketing. This page records what LEAF itself publishes, read on 29 October 2026, and what a farm should ask its certification body.
What LEAF says on its own pages
LEAF stands for Linking Environment And Farming; the pages read carry LEAF's own copyright line. Its LEAF Marque Standard page says that from 5 May 2026 all LEAF Marque audits will be against version 17.0, and that a Claims and Labelling Licence is needed for each product that carries a claim.
Neither the LEAF Marque Standard page nor the home page describes any section on energy, renewable energy or solar. The home page lists an Integrated Farm Management project called "Accelerating and Demonstrating the Journey to Net-Zero", with no detail given on the page.
So a statement that LEAF Marque "specifically references on-farm renewable energy" is not supported by the pages read. The standard document itself was not read; check version 17.0 before relying on it either way.

What to ask before you plan around the scheme
- Ask your assessor, certification body or buyer in writing whether a rooftop array changes anything in your audit; do not assume it earns credit.
- Keep meter readings and generation records: they are the evidence any energy or carbon question will ask for.
- Treat the array as a building and electrical project first: roof condition (solar panels on asbestos cement farm roofs), fire design (solar panel fire risk on farm buildings), insurer (solar panel insurance for farm buildings) and planning (planning permission for solar on farm buildings).
